  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed (for filling)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for filling)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, and active dry yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture along with softened butter, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; mix until combined into a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in a greased bowl to rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  6. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt for the filling.
  7. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly over the surface.
  8. Roll tightly into a log shape and slice into 12 equal pieces; place in a greased baking dish.
  9. Let rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
