Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs apples (Gala, Fuji, or McIntosh)
  • 10 cups water
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 inches ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tsp black peppercorns

Instructions

  1. 1. Wash and quarter the apples without peeling.
  2. 2. Choose your cooking method: For Instant Pot: Combine apples, sliced ginger, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, black peppercorns, and water. Cook at high pressure for 18 minutes; release steam manually. For stovetop: In a pot, combine the same ingredients. Bring to a boil then simmer covered until apples are soft (about 30 minutes). Let steep off heat for an additional 10 minutes.
  3. 3. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing gently on the apples to extract juice.
  4. 4. Cool completely before storing in airtight containers in the fridge.
