  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste until smooth.
  7. Cool donut bars completely before drizzling with glaze.
