  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder (if using), salt, and optional cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in cheddar cheese.
  5. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg together; then combine with dry ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Spoon the dough into the prepared pan in chunky layers.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
