Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 medium apples, sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 and 1/2 cups salted butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (for crust/topping)
  • 2 cups old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 6 tbsp salted butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • Pinch of fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper.
  2. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and spices in a bowl until evenly coated.
  3. Melt butter in a large bowl; mix with remaining crust ingredients until crumbly but holds together.
  4. Press about half of the crust mixture into the prepared pan to form the base layer.
  5. Evenly distribute the apple filling over the crust, then sprinkle reserved crust mixture on top.
  6. Bake for 38-45 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
  7. Prepare salted caramel sauce by combining granulated sugar and cubed butter over medium heat until melted; then stir in cream and salt.
  8. Let bars cool before drizzling with salted caramel sauce.
