  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: ½ cup grated Gruyère cheese, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions by heating olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt, stirring occasionally until golden brown (15-20 minutes).
  2. In a bowl, mix ground sausage with caramelized onions, thyme, salt, and pepper. For added flavor, optional mix in Gruyère cheese and Dijon mustard.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface; cut into rectangles (about 4×6 inches). Spoon filling onto each rectangle, fold over, seal edges with a fork, and brush tops with beaten egg.
