Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats old-fashioned
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet

Method
 

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
Cream Wet Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Bake
  1. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into bars and serve.
